Benefits Of Having A College Degree - 956 Words

Many high school students do not realize how important it is to go to college and get a degree. Private colleges have more academic benefits than public colleges because they have technological advancements that public schools do not have. The benefits of having a college degree and higher education can help a person academically, socially, and achieve more opportunities. Every student would love to have the name Harvard or Harvey Mudd on his or her diploma, but the reality is that the vast majority of students end up at colleges with far less name recognition and prestige than those institutions (Bennett Wilezol, 100). It is very hard to get in a big school like those because only the best students academically get the opportunity of studying there, but it can also be a good decision to go to a smaller school and get the degree there. Over time, having a college degree has become synonymous with success. The best private and public schools in 1982 had much higher wage premium to them than other schools, and especially private schools that were or were considered to be of lesser quality (Bennett Wilezol 101). Private schools were more expensive than public schools which were a better option because they had better conditions. Some people strongly encourage more students to consider community college over a four-year university as a pathway to career success (Bennett Wilezol, 144).
